‘Yummy Mummy’ Victoria Beckham Make Modern Mothers Feel Inadequate

Mothers today feel under pressure to be a “yummy mummy” — an ideal they believe is unattainable and forced upon them by celebrities, a study said.

A survey carried out asked over 10,000 people about the modern day struggles mothers face. The report found that celebrity mums like Victoria Beckham and Angelina Jolie were making everyday mothers feel inadequate.

Almost 70 percent of mothers said they felt that yummy mummy celebrities placed too much pressure on them to always look their best while trying to combine a family life with work demands.

And when it comes to comparing themselves to celebrity mums, 42 percent voted Beckham the most unrealistic role model, followed by Jolie (11 percent) and Madonna (9 percent).

Half of all mums also agonised about being seen to be ‘green’ and how to best feed their family.

The idealistic views can not only leave mothers feeling “disillusioned with their own lives”, it can also lead to partners, family members and friends being dismissive” when mums don’t live up to these unrealistic expectations.

Nearly seven out of ten mothers felt their partner did not appreciate them, with one in ten feeling more appreciated by their pet.
