I have had Twitter and Facebook accounts for a few months, but I am not serious about using them.
I know many friends and blogging pals are very crazy over these two social networking sites. Some are so hooked to the Facebook games that they don’t even bother with my beeps and messages anymore.
Guess that I must stop updating my niche blogs and stores with ultra 90 diet pills and anti-cellulite creams for a while and really really try to enjoy twitting and waiting for the crops to be harvested at Facebook.
They are free, after all.
I hate to get junk mails after giving my email to get freebies or free stuffs! I guess I should have listened to my buddy’s advice to set up a new email address specifically for collecting freebies.
Who can resist free goodies when there are hot flight deals, cheap baby bargains, or great weight loss programs? I bet most people won’t.
We all like getting things for free, but to get the freebies or free stuffs we usually must provide our email address. There is always a risk that this will get us more junk emails.
Let’s see how we can avoid the junk but still get the goodies.
1. Only provide your email address to sites that have an appropriate privacy policy.
2. Use a free (and disposable) email address when you suspect you may get on email lists that don’t interest you.
3. Most online forms provide a checkbox to select whether you want to receive email from them. Check or uncheck as appropriate.
4. Many online forms have a checkbox which asks permission to share your information with third parties. Check or uncheck as appropriate.
5. Avoid entering your email address in online guest books or other places where it will be displayed on the Web. Spammers use programs called bots to harvest these.
6. Never reply to unsolicited email even to request removal. It just verifies that your address is valid.
7. Use a bulk email blocking service like the one described in the related features below.
